Your Period Pack Holiday Guide (favorite essentials)
Your period pack holiday guide couldn’t be any easier to put together for yourself, a wellness girlie, or your best girlfriend to support period pain or PMS!
I’ve compiled a few of my favorite items when it comes to supporting your hormones and reducing period pain. What better gift to give during the holidays then a period pack that they can use all year long. Self love is the ultimate form of wellness in my books!
I’ve included period goodies like castor oil packs, magnesium oil, Epsom salts, liver organ capsules, acupressure mats, and more. All these goodies are inexpensive but can go a long way in supporting your period health and make for beautiful gifts to add to a period pack holiday guide!
With the holidays right around the corner, let’s jump into why I’ve chosen these items and the best period goodies to add to your period pack!
Let me know what you think or if you’ve tried any of these period goodies down in the comments below, over on my Instagram, or YouTube.
Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil is derived from Ricinus communis, a plant commonly found in Eastern parts of the world. It’s known for it’s incredible healing properties and often used for constipation due to its laxative properties. Castor oil can do more than relieve constipation, castor oil can be used for uterine fibroids, migraines, dysmenorrhea (painful periods), lipid metabolism, antimicrobial activity, and more.
Castor oil packs are incredible at supporting PMS, namely, period cramps or pain leading up to your period. It’s best to use them in the luteal phase (2nd half of your menstrual cycle, after ovulation). I believe anyone who is struggling with period pain, castor oil packs are a great addition to your period pack holiday guide. (You can read more about castor oil packs and who shouldn’t use them, here. Always consult with your practitioner to see if castor oil packs are a good fit for your period pack holiday guide)
Magnesium Body Lotion or Spray
Magnesium is a mineral that’s used in more than 300 enzymatic processes in the body, it’s kind of a big deal when it comes to healthy happy hormones and reducing period pain. Magnesium supports your liver with processing estrogen more efficiently. High estrogen (or estrogen dominance) can be a sneaky culprit to period pain. I personally like this magnesium oil to add to your period pack holiday guide. Or you can make your own, here’s how.
Epsom Salts
Epsom salts are made from magnesium sulfate, a type of magnesium (check out all the different types of magnesium, here.
Magnesium plays a role in muscle relaxation. What better way to give yourself some love if you’re experiencing painful periods than soaking in an Epsom salt bath rich in magnesium. Epsom salts are the perfect addition to your period pack holiday guide!
Liver Organ Capsule
Sounds gross, right? Hear me out before you completely write this one off. Liver is a nutrient powerhouse, it’s the most nutrient-dense food you can possibly find! I know not everyone may want to consume liver and organ meats but that’s why a liver organ capsule could be a perfect fit to add to your period pack holiday guide. Did I say it’s a nutrient powerhouse? It’s natures way of wrapping up everything you need into one little capsule, basically you could swap this out for your multivitamin. Whether you add it to your period remedies or a ritual for your wellness journey, it’s a goodie!
Acupressure Mat
Trust me, I was so skeptical of acupressure mats and the idea of acupressure but let me tell you, it’s a game changer! It can be an upfront investment but the times you attend massage, acupressure, chiropractor appointments, etc. the cost is surely worth it!
Bone Broth
Bone broth is made from the bones of animals and if you decide to add bone broth to your holiday period pack guide, I’d suggest looking for one that’s made from healthy, grass-fed animals. Bone broth is a nutrient powerhouse when it comes to supporting your gut. It’s rich in amino acids (like glycine and proline) which are critical components of connective tissue. It’s soothing to the gut lining and can support repairing the gut lining. I’m talking a lot about the gut, right? The gut is an area you want to focus on when dealing with period pain and bone broth is one way to address it. An excellent gift for a wellness girlie or to add to your period pack holiday guide.
Menstrual Pads and Tampons
If you aren’t using a menstrual cup, then I’d encourage you to try one out. But if a reuseable menstrual cup’s not your thing then look for 100% organic cotton tampons or pads, without the use of fragrance or artificial additives. We want to protect our lady parts down there and I’d stay clear from many of the menstrual products on the shelves today.
Sleep Hygiene
I’d be dismissed if I didn’t address the need for good sleep when it comes to period remedies. You can’t necessarily give “sleep” as a gift to someone in their period pack holiday guide, but you certainly can encourage it with a few wellness goodies. Sunrise sunset alarm clocks, sleep masks, magnesium oil, tart cherry juice, and bedding can all go a long way in a good night’s rest.
